Stress fracture rules Sefton out of Junior Black Fins

Injury has ruled Kane Sefton out of the Junior Black Fins for the 2016 Lifesaving World Championships, just over a month before the team is due to depart for The Netherlands.

The Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service member has had to withdraw due to a stress fracture in his talus which has him in a moon boot for 6-8 weeks.

He was tagged to race in the board rescue, beach relay, board race, Ironman, pool relays, 100m tow with fins, 100m carry with fins and 200m super lifesaver.

He will be replaced by Youth Squad member Daniel Barron from Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service.

Junior Black Fins coach Jonelle Quane says it's obviously very disappointing for Kane and the team but it's an important decision to ensure his recovery and long-term career.

"We are pleased to have Dan joining the team and we know he will be welcomed by the rest of the Junior Black Fins, starting this weekend at the team's second training camp in Auckland."
