Piha is an event that includes a number of Australian crews. In order to allow all New Zealand crews the ability to contest semi final and final racing separate semi final and finals will be held that will contribute to the New Zealand Surf Boat Series points. The top kiwi crews will then challenge the Aussies in a Kiwi/Aussie final but this will not contribute to standing within the New Zealand Surf Boat series.
