Surf to School is a school based programme that focuses on delivering surf safety messages into schools and the wider community. Surf to School is currently operating within our Northern Region and delivering to many schools from the Far North down to the Waikato.
Surf Lifeguard Instructors bring the Surf to School Trailer into the school grounds and they deliver fun filled sessions from 45 to 90 minutes.

Within each session the surf lifeguards teach the students:
- Surf safety tips that will keep them from getting into trouble
- How to recognise rips and dangers at the beach
- How to be sun smart
- About rescue equipment and how it is used
- The role of the Lifeguard
- How to join a club
- Beach games
Testimonials
"One of the BEST talks the students have had!"
"Great. Used visual, involved children, played games, children weren’t sitting for too long,
lesson was well planned and suitable for this age. Well done!"
"We would like to extend our thanks and deepest appreciation to the talented duo that came to teach our students last week. The instructors were fun and encouraging but were still able to maintain discipline and set clear boundaries for all of our students.
In short – our students thoroughly enjoyed their morning and are still talking about it today (hence the email to you!)
Please pass on our huge thanks to the both of them, they were simply awesome!"
"Great for them to see ‘real’ lifeguards – makes the message more real for them"
