This year, the Lifesaving World Championships ('Rescue 2008', or 'The Worlds' as it is colloquially known) took place in Germany. It was arranged by the German Life Saving Organisation (DLRG) on behalf of the International Life Saving Federation (ILS). From 20 July to 2 August about 4,000 participants took part in competitions in Berlin and Warnemünde. Berlin hosts the pool-events and Warnemünde is the venue for the sea-based events.
